CLUSTERIP is definitely seems to be the way to go. Thank you for the
valuable information.

Looks like the iptables package distributed with Ubuntu is lacking
support for the CLUSTERIP target (according to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iptables/+bug/113863), so I
will have to roll out my own.
