root at odysseus:~# /etc/ha.d/resource.d/IPaddr 192.168.5.31 status
running
root at odysseus:~#

This means that the "clustered" IP address 192.168.5.31 is active on the node, 
hence, this node is the "master".

It may not be 100% reliable if you have only one communication channel though.
