Imagine the situation: you uses Heartbeat to monitor a machine 
availability. However if a service downs and machine stays up. The 
virtual IP will keep on this server but users don't will access the 
service. You don´t have HA if it occur.

The HAPM monitors locally the ports of service and if a port closes the 
Heartbeat will be killed. So the second host will take on the virtual 
IP. Do you understood this situation?

HAPM is light and simple to configure.

To fix the service problem a human must act (system administrator). 
Before restart the service don't forget to make a previous log analyses.
