[Linux-HA] backup node fails to start heartbeat due to problem with serial port?

Hi all,

I have a fairly basic 2 node primary / backup configuration.

Both nodes are running the same hardware and OS (RedHat Linux on a 2.4
kernel).

Heartbeat version 2.0.2 installed from RPMs.

I have a null modem running between the serial ports.

When I start heartbeat on the primary node and then the start heartbeat
on the backup node, heartbeat will fail to start up on the backup node -
  producing the following log entries:

heartbeat[8308]: 2006/10/06_06:52:12 ERROR: glib: cannot lock line
/dev/ttyS0
heartbeat[8308]: 2006/10/06_06:52:12 ERROR: cannot open serial /dev/ttyS0

A quick search on Google only show very old mailing list archive
messages referring to a bug in a very old version of heartbeat.

If I run:

cat </dev/ttyS0

on the backup node, then I can see the data that heartbeat on the
primary server is continuing to send.

Has anyone encountered this before?
