The latest version of ldirectord can be found in the linux-ha
The -r / -R bug that you speak of has been fixed a while ago by
making the change that you mention.
Ldirectord directly supports: HTTP, HTTPS and FTP, as well as limited
support for POP, IMAP and SMTP. For other protocols such as DNS and NTP,
you may use checktype=connect to simply connect to a known TCP port, but
not do any checking for known strings.
I am more than happy to accept paches to handle additional protocols.
